What are peptides?
Peptides are not new. They have been around in Russia for over 50 years and Australia for 30 years or so.
Peptides are simply small proteins or strands of Amino Acids that range anywhere from 2-100 Amino Acids. Amino Acids are the building blocks for making proteins and peptides. There are 20 Amino Acids, and nine of them are considered essential amino acids since our bodies cannot produce them. We need to consume certain foods to obtain those essential amino acids.
What are the benefits of taking peptides?
Peptide therapy is a key component for regenerative medicine, think anti-aging. Peptides can help our immune system, improve our skin and help it to look younger, boost our libidos, protect our DNA, reduce inflammation, assist in weight loss, heal injuries such as sprains and strains and help our brains become sharper.
In recent years, research has shown that peptides play a significant role in the mechanisms of aging and can aid our longevity.
Here are some typical peptides used at Westchester Wellness Medicine:
- TB500/BPC-157 for full body repair.
- TA-1 For immune support. Very helpful in treating Autoimmune disease
- CJC1295 with Ipamorelin promotes the natural production of growth hormone which may then have positive effects on bone density, gaining lean muscle mass and fat loss.
- Semax and Selank for improving cognitive impairment, dementia and may even have antidepressant functions.
- PT-141 or Bremelanotide is used to treat low libido in men and women. In men, it is very effective at treating ED.
The field of “Peptology” is constantly evolving. This is only a short list.
Our experience with peptides: a consumer’s perspective.
"I have used BPC-157 and TB-500 with great success on recovering from hard workouts, repairing sprained tendons (I have a torn labrum in my left shoulder and am doing my best to avoid surgery. Both BPC-157 and TB-500 have helped me immensely in reducing shoulder inflammation and pain. A better example is I usually sleep on my left side but the pain from the torn labrum would cause me to wake me up at night, but since beginning BPC-157 and TB-500 use, I don't wake up anymore from shoulder pain." - Pet
In conclusion:
Peptides have proven over and over again in both animal and human studies to be perfectly safe. These are compounds that our bodies already produce and some 7,000 Peptides have been identified in the human body. Peptides seem to be headed towards the future of medicine as more and more Peptides are discovered inside of us. In the world of Functional Medicine, we have literally only scratched the surface of Peptide use for healing, energy, and anti-aging.
